Meet Eggy...a small little egg who needs your help. Eggy is taking a trip over the 9th street bridge to the visit his friends at another school. He will be traveling through the mail and needs a special transportation device to keep him nice and safe (eggs are quite fragile). He needs you to engineer a transportation device that can be shipped through the postal service that will keep him from cracking.
Design a safe transportation device to ship Eggy across the 9th street bridge to a neighboring school!
You can only use the materials provided:
* Cardboard Shoe Box
* 10 plastic drinking straws
* 1 meter of masking tape
* 10 paper clips
* 5 pipe cleaners
* 2 sheets of construction paper
* Wrapping paper and scotch tape (to wrap the box only)
Use the Design Process
How to label a package
Students at both schools will ship Eggy across the bridge inside their transportation devices. Once the packages arrive at the schools, students will video themselves opening and inspecting the other school's designs. Once recorded, students will send their observation video to the other school with positive feedback on the design.
* Did the egg crack? Why or why not?
* What did you like about the other school's designs?
